Yesterday’s Ubisoft Forward was filled with new information about all the next projects coming our way from the developers. While Assassin’s Creed’s future announcements were the highlight of the show, Skull and Bones also got two new trailers.
Interestingly enough, the game was supposed to come out 5 years ago. But major delays almost caused cancellation until Ubisoft announced a solid release for this year. We already know quite a bit about the game as of now, the trailers show more gameplay and world context.
The new trailers primarily focus on showing more about the world and the gameplay experience. The first trailer shows the pirate-infested sea world, while the second shows more in-game footage.
The gameplay trailer shows off the ship customization in Skull and Bones. We got a glimpse of the ship customization systems at Ubisoft Forward 2022, which included weapons, ship armor that resists different damage types, and cosmetic changes like paint, sails, and other accessories.
Whether you’re looking for mobility, power or cargo capacity, each ship has its own features. In addition, each ship can be equipped with all arsenal and cosmetic items. However, this depends on how you customize it, as the options are many. There’s also the fact that certain items will be useful against certain ammo and other things, so customizing your ship accordingly will be a big part of the game.
Skull and Bones takes place around the end of the 17th century. The world context trailer says that the war for global supremacy was at its height around that time and organizations were fighting for it. Some lost exotic goods from the Indian Ocean lead to another conflict that formulates a group of pirates.
In the game, you will be your own pirate sailing the seas and creating your own legacy. It will be up to you to retrieve all the lost treasure and fight other pirates on the way to supremacy.
Ubisoft’s open world pirate game is primarily built to be played as a multiplayer game. However, there will also be a single player mode. The unfortunate part is that you cannot keep your multiplayer and single player progress separate as they will be merged.
Skull and Bones is set to launch on November 8, 2022, which is a challenging date as God of War: Ragnarok is released the very next day. It will be really interesting to see if Ubisoft can make the actual game live up to the hype they have created. It launches on Windows, Stadia, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
