That Saints Row reboot had a pretty bad launch, which we also found in our review. The game performed poorly enough that parent company Embracer Group reassigned its team to another project.
While the game “performed in line with management’s expectations” in the quarter it released, Volition will now be part of Gearbox Entertainment, which Embracer Group also owns.
Additionally, Embracer admits that the reboot “didn’t live up to full expectations and left the fanbase partially polarized,” even though Volition has “worked hard to improve the player experience.”
“Going forward, Volition will transition to become part of Gearbox, which has all the tools, including an experienced management team in the US, to drive future success at Volition,” the company said.
They added: “This is the first intragroup transfer where we are transferring a major study between operative groups, but it is not necessarily the last.”
