Purrchess, a new chess simulator featuring extensive customization and adorable cat figures, launches onto Android today – Effinate Games

AppGuru’s newest release sees a new spin put on the chess genre, this time with adorable little kittens instead of chess pieces! PurrChess is meant to make the scary idea of getting into chess a little more accessible, while allowing full decoration of both board and pieces with sweet decorations and cosmetics.

PurrChess puts a lot of emphasis on customization. It has a multitude of chessboard options, each designed to be aesthetically pleasing and entirely up to the player. This allows for a ton of variety in each match on the visual end, and also allows each player to express themselves in the way they see fit, adding a bit more flair to the typical chess game.

On top of the boards, your pieces can also be customized to represent your favorite look. While every piece is cat-themed in one way or another, there’s also a ton of different skins to rock. For example, the hot property right now is a samurai skin, which adorns your kitties in a kabuto along with some samurai armor to bring glory to their battlefield.

Beyond the cosmetics, PurrChess is a pure and unadulterated chess experience, which may be shocking given the popular auto-chess genre too late. So if you are familiar with the true, genuine version of the game, there are no strange twists or gamey gimmicks here. It’s just you, your pieces and your logic, fighting against an opponent who is on the same level as you.

Speaking of opponents, PurrChess of course also allows you to play in multiplayer with random opponents, or alternatively with your own friends. Add in the fact that there are some really good tutorials and practice options for each player, and this is one of the most accessible ways to get into the complex game that is chess that I’ve seen to date.

If you want to try it yourself, you can find PurrChess, which can be downloaded exclusively on the Play Store for now. There’s no word yet on an iOS port, but one could be on the way. In the meantime, stay tuned to the official website for updates on it or just to check out screenshots and all the features!
