Crunchyroll, best known for its anime streaming service, has announced Hime’s Quest.
It stars the company’s mascot, Hime, in a retro 8-bit adventure on the Gameboy Color, literally. The game itself is made for the old school handheld with a cartridge release and all.
The title also includes a special appearance by renowned horror manga artist, Junji Ito. Its physical release for the Gameboy Color will be handled by Crunchyroll Store and Limited games in selected regions. Both will have exclusive colors for the cartridges.
Here is an overview of Hime’s Quest:
Take control as Crunchyroll-Hime to save the anime club from Y2K in her first ever video game: Hime’s Quest. Seen in 1999, there is something electric in the air. A malevolent force has crept into New Crunchy City and wreaked havoc on its technology, tragically destroying the Anime Club’s prized DVD/VCR combo player. Can you root out the obnoxious cretin who is brazen enough to ruin their meeting?
Adventure through haunted forests, mirage-filled deserts and more in Crunchyroll-Hime’s biggest quest yet.
Hack and slash your way through dungeons and face off against totally buggin’ fiends in league with Y2K.
Kick back with Crunchyroll-Hime’s friends in the anime club, or visit creepy manga creator Junji Ito, who is currently obsessed with spirals.
Some games let you pet the dog, this one lets you *try* to pet the cat. Can you succeed and give Crunchyroll-Hime’s best friend Yuzu a pat on the head?
PLAY IT LOUD! with a chiptune soundtrack by future (time paradox averted) award-winning 8-bit composer and musician Protodome.

Hime’s Quest can be pre-ordered now and closes on December 23rd. Those attending Anime NYC will have a chance to try out a demo at their booth. In addition to the physical cartridge, there will also be a browser version and a downloadable ROM available later.
