Some children just have an extremely difficult time falling asleep. And that means parents can’t sleep either. It’s not good for either side, so PlaySide Studios Limited has tried to come up with a solution. PlaySide is one of Australia’s largest video game developers, having created over 60 titles in collaboration with companies such as Take-Two, Activision, Disney, Pixar, Warner Bros and Nickelodeon.
Their next title aims to solve this widespread sleep problem with their first ever educational mobile app called Dumb Ways to Sleep. It does exactly what it says on the tin – finding silly and cute ways to get kids to sleep.
Dumb Ways to Sleep combines storytelling and meditation practice with a host of cute characters to help parents relax and calm restless children. The app uses methods rooted in science to achieve all of this, and it helps with much more than just getting your baby to sleep.
The hallmark, of course, is the treasure trove of bedtime stories featuring two endearing characters, Klutz and Bozo. Through the stories, they will find themselves in whimsical surroundings and do a lot of crazy things. The app contains five play stories with lullabies that form part of the narrative.
But that’s not all. Dumb Ways to Sleep also encourages children to practice meditation from a young age, helping them wind down and unwind at the end of the day. The guided meditations will teach children about different breathing practices, help promote peace and help with emotional balance and general well-being.
All this is done in collaboration with the experts at Peaceful Kids. The developers have managed to create a large portfolio of over 100 pieces of content at launch, with more in the pipeline. Dumb Ways to Sleep is free to download but requires a subscription which costs $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year.
