Cyberpunk 2077 has finally revealed the brand new expansion “Phantom Liberty” with a new teaser trailer. All of the new content is scheduled to launch in 2023 for PC, Stadia, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X or S. While there is no gameplay footage, there is terrific cinematics and a great narrative.

Cyberpunk 2077 had one of the most controversial launches in recent memory, but that was almost entirely due to functional issues rather than content or gameplay itself. Since then, the developers have been fighting an uphill battle to renew the interest of fans, especially after raising expectations so high through their marketing campaign.
Now that the dust has settled, Cyberpunk 2077 has found its audience, and many of them are relieved that the title wasn’t exactly abandoned. The developers pushed forward, and now a new expansion will deliver a “whole new district” of Night City, according to the teaser’s description.
With only a very brief glimpse of a vehicle crash in the game, it will be interesting to see how the new area turns out. Hopefully it will have as much personality as the rest of the base game without feeling redundant. But it can be a tough balancing act.
While fans are hoping for even more, that kind of funding and effort is yet to be seen and will likely be determined by the success of Phantom Liberty.
But even more promising is the hot topic of the story, which has great potential. The storytelling was a surprising highlight of the game, with simple but effective world building. The update is also another opportunity to make some long-lasting quality of life improvements.
