It’s no secret that CD Projekt Red is anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 had a less than stellar launch filled with bugs and other issues. So much so that they were even hit with a lawsuit over the state the game was released in.
They have since worked on the game fixing many of the bugs that plagued it at launch. The new Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion was also recently announced, and is currently planned as the only expansion for the title.
Despite this, the company states that they are “fully committed” to development Cyberpunk IP where these words were made under CD Projekt Groups H1 2022 earnings call.
“We decided to develop one more major expansion Cyberpunk, which will take advantage of all the possibilities of the new generation of consoles,” said Michał Nowakowski, CD Projekt Red’s vice president of business development. “Having said that, we are completely, fully committed to development Cyberpunk IP further, in addition to this particular Cyberpunk expansion.”
“We’ve put a lot of effort and time into building this franchise, and we definitely want to continue to build on what was built right now — with new stories, new experiences, new content, basically. Not just the video game format.. . In terms of expansions, there will only be a major expansion. But there will be new things in the future.”
It seems their goals with the franchise go beyond video games. Which makes sense as they have Cyberpunk Edgerunners, an anime streaming on Netflix. It fits with what they have done with their most popular franchise in The Witcher, which has a live action series on the same service.
Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for Windows PC (via Epic games, GOOand Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Google Stadia. If you missed it, you can find our in-depth review of the original game here and our port report for its next-gen versions here.
That Phantom Liberty expansion will only be available for Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 – as it will exclude the last-gen versions on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
