Asobo Studio’s A Plague Tale: Innocence was released in 2019. The story of the two orphans Amicia and Hugo was really heartfelt. Despite the not-so-good gameplay, it received praise for its story from critics and fans worldwide. While there was speculation about a new entry, Asobo delivered by announcing A Plague Tale: Requiem, a sequel to the first game.
A Plague Tale: Requiem was announced last year at E3 with a reveal trailer. A common problem many people had with the first game was the completion time. The story campaign lasted about 10½ hours, and about 16 hours if you’re targeting a 100% completion rate.
Asobo Studio’s Lead Level Designer, Kevin Pinson, as he talks with PLAY Magazine (Issue #19) via MP1stsure the sequel will be longer than the original game. To be more precise, without fillers the game will take around 15 to 18 hours to complete.
'It’s about pacing, there’s no filler, there’s no trying to make it longer because we needed to. Our publisher Focus Interactive encourages us to do the length that we want to do for the game for the story we want to tell. So we’re not aiming for a specific amount of hours. This is not something that we take into account when we first design the game. We are a small team of 70 people so we have to be really drastic about our choices.'
This is really good news, as publishers sometimes ask developers to make games longer just for the sake of it. It’s very refreshing to see that Focus Entertainment has given the developers the freedom to create whatever they want.
A Plague Tale: Requiem will act as a direct sequel to the previous game. Although life seemed to return to normal after Amicia and Hugo defeated an insane Grand Inquisitor to stop the Rat Plague that Hugo had been able to control due to a bloodline curse, it seems that all is not been resolved.
The story will revolve around them trying to find a permanent cure for Hugo to stop the dangers that lie ahead. That’s all we know about the main story so far.
The game will be released on October 18, 2022. It can be pre-ordered and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. In even better news, it will also launch on Xbox Game Pass on day 1 of its release.
